Video
1: A small image-machine: A video runs automatically
as usual, but it is also movable and stoppable through a series of indexes,
that stand for 'filmstrips'.
Video 2: Similar to video 1, a cinematographic course
of events runs again with a luxurious graphic presentation. In the background
there is a movable panorama of output images. One and the same image
material is simultaneously and in different manifestations present as
a sequential development in the space. In this way it can be put into
a perspective in a slow or fast succession of time. The twitching video
helplessly trapped in its repeat loop shows a sequence of steps - steps
which have a fundamental affinity with the structural discontinuities
of the film material. The camera-eye appears less to climb the stairs
than to approach them, as the steps - random or not - correspond to the
rhythm of the frames. What is relevant, however, is less the content
of the videos than the composition in which it is integrated. The video
image is not a course of events which dominates the entire screen. It
shrinks to a source of emission among other things and creates a space
for a clear site with partially mobile, reactive sign-objects in different
states of aggregation, a field of conditional and representational objects,
upon which one can move and intervene in different aspects. [...] Both
'videos' are simple, but they attest to a change in consciousness in
which it has become self-evident that it/one must no longer decide on
any specific method of presentation and that one and the same object
is imaginable side by side with different temporal and semiotic systems. (Walter
Pamminger / Translation: David Quigley)
